Factors affecting teacher motivation

The aim of this course is to provide information to the participants about the factors that affect teacher motivation. For this purpose, the physical factors, motivating factors, teacher self-efficacy, teacher perception of equality, teachers’ expectations, and additionally the factors that include teachers’ goals, which are the factors that affect teacher motivation, will be examined in detail in a theoretical context. At the end of this course, it is aimed to obtain short and clear theoretical information about the factors that affect teachers’ motivation. In this context, the factors that affect teacher motivation will be explained to the participants in a short and clear manner in the light of theories such as need and motivation theories. As physical factors, the tools and equipment used in schools, working conditions, wages, and school security will be examined. As motivating factors, the teacher’s self-esteem, the desire to be useful to their students, the teacher’s desire to be successful, and the teacher’s self-actualization will be examined. In addition, the concepts of perceived distributive justice and procedural justice will be examined as factors that affect teacher motivation in the context of teachers’ perception of equality. In addition, the effect of the relationship that teachers establish between effort, performance, and reward on teacher motivation will be emphasized. Teacher self-efficacy, which means the teacher feeling competent in a subject, will be examined in terms of its conceptual relationship and effect on teacher motivation in the context of classroom management, student participation and the ability to use teaching strategies. Finally, the effect of teachers’ professional goals as realistic and challenging goals on teacher motivation will be discussed in a theoretical context.
